Tecplot 360/2014 R1 EX Installation
Tecplot 360/2014 R1 EX Installation
The College of Engineering's (CoE) licensing agreement with Tecplot
covers only the CoE, not all of Purdue. Only people affiliated
with the CoE may use the license on the PULS website. If you are
affiliated with the CoE then the license covers all faculty, staff
and students. Purdue owned as well as personally owned systems.
You can get the Tecplot software at:

	https://engineering.purdue.edu/PULS/

	under Visualization/TECPLOT
The following instructions are for systems NOT currently
under ECN support or "self-supported" systems. If your
system IS under ECN support then we have a different
process to install Tecplot on your system. Go to this
link and ask for the software to be installed on your system:

	https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/AboutUs/ContactUs

	Updating the license file

If you have an existing Tecplot 360 installation (2011 or 2012)
and your license has expired then all you need to do is download a
new license file, tecplotlm.lic You can get the new license file on
	the ECN PULS website:

	https://engineering.purdue.edu/PULS/

	Under Visualization/TECPLOT/All Versions/Tecplot license

Just replacing your existing tecplotlm.lic file with the new one will update
your license. It is normally located at the top level of your installation.

	Installing Tecplot 360

	Windows (32-bit and 64-bit)
Once you've downloaded the executable from PULS double click on the
file to start the installation. During the installation you will be
asked for a License number. Use the following:

	License number: L15388-6634

After the installation is finished launch the application.
Once Tecplot comes up it will complain that it doesn't have
a valid license. Select OK and the "Tecplot Licensing" window
	will open.

The information requested on the License window depends
on whether the machine is primarily located on campus
or is a personally owned laptop or home system.

** If your machine is located on campus use this information:

	              License Type: Network
	License Server Name: tecplot-license.ecn.purdue.edu
	               Port number: 1735

Select OK and you should now have a valid license to run
	Tecplot.

** If your machine is a laptop or home system then you must

download the Tecplot license file, tecplotlm.lic, from the
PULS web site under the heading "Tecplot license".
Once you have that file go back to the "Tecplot Licensing"
window and select "Single User" as the license type. Click
on the "Open License File..." button.  Browse and select the
tecplotlm.lic license file that you downloaded.

Select OK and you should now have a valid license to run Tecplot.

	Macintosh OS X (64-bit)
Tecplot uses the X11 software package for its graphical interface.
You must install this package first for Tecplot to run. You can
download and install the latest X11 software from:

	http://xquartz.macosforge.org

	under "Latest Release".

Once you've downloaded the Tecplot tar file from the PULS site
double click on the file to untar the files into a directory called
"tecplot_2013macix64.106". Open a "terminal" and change your
shell directory to the "tecplot_2013macix64.106" directory.

	shell# cd Downloads/tecplot_2013macix64.106

	Run the setup script:

	# ./setuptec

Hit the return key and accept the license agreement. It will
ask you for a directory name to install the files. Use
	something like:

	/Applications/Tec360_2013

will work unless you already have someplace you want to install it.
It will ask you if you want to enter you license number. Hit the
return Key to answer yes. Give it the following license number:

	L15388-6634

The installation will complete. In your applications folder you
can now run Tecplot. Launch Tecplot (Reminder: you must have
the X11 software installed for Tecplot to run). Once Tecplot comes
up it will complain that it doesn't have a valid license. Select OK
and the "Tecplot Licensing" window will open. The information
requested on the License window depends on whether the machine is
primarily located on campus or is a personally owned laptop or home
	system.

	Linux
To install TECPLOT 360/2014 R1 EX for the Linux platform, run the tecplot360ex_linux64.sh file that you downloaded
	from PULS.  For example:

	shell# mdkir /tmp/tecplot_install_files
	shell# cp tecplot360ex_linux64.sh /tmp/tecplot_install_files
	shell# cd /tmp/tecplot_install_files

	run the script:

	# ./tecplot360ex_linux64.sh

	 - Agree to the license terms
	 - Select a directory to install the files into

For more information on how to run the installer,
consult the "TECPLOT 360 2013 Installation Guide"
found in the directory where you unzipped/untarred
	the Tecplot tar file.

After installation of TECPLOT 360/2014 R1 EX,
you must replace the "tecplotlm.lic" file found
at the top level of your TECPLOT 360/2014 R1 EX installation
tree.  Download the real tecplotlm.lic from the PULS
web site under "Tecplot license". Rename the original
"tecplotlm.lic" and then copy the real "tecplotlm.lic"
	in its place:

For example, if you put the files in
/tmp/tecplot_install_files and you installed TECPLOT 360/2014 R1 EX
into /usr/local/tecplot and you download the real
	tecplotlm.lic file to /tmp/tecplotlm.lic:

	shell# cd /usr/local/tecplot
	shell# mv tecplotlm.lic tecplotlm.lic-original
	shell# cp /tmp/tecplotlm.lic .
Then to run tecplot look in the bin directory in the install location for tec360
