Associate Professor Edwin Garcia is part of a group of researchers at Purdue University who are using numerical modeling to find ways to understand the complex science behind the formation of 'dendrites' that cause lithium-ion batteries to fail which will help to design better separators to create longer-lasting batteries.

Assistant Professor of Materials Engineering was named on Jan 6, 2015 to receive a Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program Award from the National Science Foundation.

"For his seminal contributions to the development of materials for recording and sensor devices enabling continuous density increases of information storage technology, in particular of magnetic recording."
