The Purdue University College of Engineering 150th Anniversary wouldn’t be complete without showcasing the talents of our newest influx of engineering students. The Purdue College of Engineering and the First Year Engineering (FYE) program will host the second annual FYE Design Competition on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in which thousands of FYE students will have the chance to win prizes in a competitive format as they practice and demonstrate their teaming, creativity, problem solving, and engineering design skills. Teams of three-to-four FYE students will address a given engineering problem using design methodology learned by the students in fall 2024 ENGR 13X or ENGR 16X courses. The competition will be judged by a 12-judge panel that includes graduate students, industry professionals, and Purdue faculty. Team registration, design proposals, documentation, competition scores, and judging feedback will be managed using the online portal Purdue Pitch. Participation in the competition begins with an electronic submission of an initial design proposal (Round 1) that will be reviewed by a panel of judges. A subset of 15-20 teams will be selected to compete in the in-person portion of this competition (Rounds 2 & 3) during which they will present designs to the judging panel. Judges will select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finalists to receive awards provided through Purdue and industry sponsorships. For more information visit the competition dashboard.
