Advances in Numerical Methods for Topology Optimization
Dr. Hyunsun Alicia Kim
Professor
Structural Engineering Department
University of California, San Diego
Abstract
This talk will present the recent activities in the research of topology optimization at M2DO lab of the University of California San Diego. We developed a level set topology optimization method uniquely combining the popular level set method and mathematical programming to take advantages of the stable topological changes from the level set method and the generalized constraint management from mathematical programming. We have extended this method to a range of challenging problems, focusing recently on coupled multiscale and multiphysics problems. The presentation will discuss how optimization is built on computational analysis techniques and will conclude with the current and future directions.
