AAE Prof. Yu to research Bio-inspired Metamaterials in Israel through Fulbright scholarship
Wenbin Yu, the Milton Clauser Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, has been selected as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar. Dr Yu will serve as a Fulbright Distinguished Senior Scholar during his research appointment at Tel Aviv University in Israel from December 2025 through April 2026.
His project, titled “Multiscale Constitutive Modeling of Bio-inspired Metamaterials,” aims to explore the next generation of structural materials through innovative multiscale modeling techniques.
“I am very excited and honored to become one of the 2025 Fulbright Distinguished Scholars,” Yu said. “This scholarship will provide me a great opportunity to collaborate with distinguished faculty at Tel Aviv University and interact with colleagues from other leading institutes such as the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and the Weizmann Institute of Science.”
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international academic exchange initiative. It is designed to build lasting connections between the United States and other countries by providing opportunities to study, teach, conduct research and exchange ideas.
In addition to this latest honor, Yu has authored a textbook set to be published in September, titled Multiscale Structural Mechanics: Top-Down Modeling of Composite Structures Using Mechanics of Structure Genome. The book introduces fundamental concepts in vectors, tensors, continuum mechanics, micromechanics, and structural mechanics, guiding readers through the principles of multiscale modeling. By bridging the gap between micromechanics and structural mechanics, the text offers models that retain the simplicity of classical engineering approaches while incorporating the accuracy of more detailed microstructural theories.
