CCE Undergrad Spotlight — Violet Fitzgerald
Hometown: Corydon, Indiana
Current year: Senior

Violet chose Purdue Construction Engineering because she is interested in building structures that will have an impact on communities.
Why I chose Purdue Civil and Construction Engineering
I’ve always had an interest in both Purdue University and construction engineering. My mom and uncle went to school here, so I’ve wanted to study here myself — and I knew Purdue had a strong construction program, so I was confident this was the right place for me.
Emphasis area
I am in the construction engineering program. I really like how the classes are small, and you get a lot of hands-on experience. I’ve interned for the past three summers, and it has really opened my eyes to what sort of impact construction engineers can have on the world.

Violet is the president and creator of the independent Purdue Grand Prix race team, Reginald Racing.
Grand Prix team president
I lead an independent Purdue Grand Prix team that I started with my friends called Reginald Racing. It’s been a great experience to help support and promote our racing team and be part of one of Purdue’s biggest annual traditions. This spring will be my last race, so I am really looking forward to seeing how we perform.
After I graduate
After I graduate, I plan to enter the career field as a construction engineer. For the past three years I have been interning with JE Dunn Construction in Nashville, Tennessee and I have recently accepted a position with them and will start after I graduate this May.

Violet says she has cherished her time as a Purdue student because of the wonderful people she has met throughout her time on campus.
