Jennifer (Kasay) Altstadt is the President & CEO of Sea-Land Chemical Company, a leading specialty chemical distributor serving the lubricants and household, industrial and institutional cleaner markets across North America.
After earning her BS in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University, Jennifer began her career at Nordson Corporation, where she gained broad experience in manufacturing, commercial operations, and led enterprise-wide initiatives in lean, business process improvement, and SAP implementation. She ultimately assumed full P&L responsibility for a business unit, overseeing both operational and commercial strategy. She credits her Purdue education as fundamental in equipping her to thrive in these complex and evolving areas.
She went on to earn an MS in Industrial Engineering from Cleveland State University and an Executive MBA from Case Western Reserve University, further strengthening her foundation in both business strategy and operational leadership.
Jennifer later served as President of Weatherchem Corporation, where she led a successful turnaround of flat sales and declining profits. Through strategic planning, new product development, system upgrades, and a strong cultural transformation, she doubled revenue and nearly tripled EBITDA. Her leadership positioned the company for a successful strategic sale at a top-tier industry multiple.
In 2015, Jennifer joined Sea-Land Chemical Company and became President & CEO in 2018. She is responsible for developing and executing the company’s long-term strategy, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring organizational readiness for the future. Under her leadership, Sea-Land—an employee-owned ESOP company—has seen a significant increase in value, directly benefiting its employee-owners. She has aligned company objectives with customer and supplier goals, modernized systems and processes, and nurtured a collaborative, accountable culture focused on delivering technical solutions.
Jennifer is a respected leader known for visionary thinking and her ability to influence others through strong relationships, direct communication, and results-oriented leadership. Her engineering background, combined with advanced business education, provides a solid foundation for executing in complex environments by focusing on the big picture, process, and people—driving sustainable growth and helping individuals reach their full potential.
She serves on the board of Haviland Enterprises, chairs the Visiting Committee at the Weatherhead School of Management, and is a 2023 graduate of Leadership Cleveland. She also actively contributes to civic initiatives such as Collaborate Cleveland and the Cleveland Food Bank. She and her husband, Mark, enjoy staying active, giving back to the community, and spending time with their growing family. They are the proud parents of two sons—one a graduate of Northwestern University and the other from the University of Alabama—and are thrilled to now have a lovely daughter-in-law and a future daughter-in-law joining the family. Jennifer also enjoys leading a book club and living a healthy, active lifestyle that promotes personal and professional growth. She is especially grateful for the encouragement of her father, who supported her educational journey from the start, and for the unwavering support of her husband and family, which has enabled her continued learning and career growth.
As a first-in-family college attendee, Jennifer found the Purdue community to be incredibly supportive and formative. She proudly reflects on her time at Purdue as a defining foundation for her leadership journey—instilling in her the values of critical thinking, integrity, and lifelong learning. She is especially grateful for the encouragement and guidance of Professor Shimon Nof and Nancy Friedersdorf from the Office of the Dean of Women, whose mentorship played a meaningful role in shaping her academic and leadership path.
