Congratulations to Jessamy C. Kalista for being one of ten students honored with the Award of Excellence for the Top Research Poster at the 2012 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Symposia. Kalista is a visiting student from the University of New Haven, and has conducted research under the guidance of MSE Professor John A. Howarter this summer.

The SURF program allows students to receive pay for hands-on research opportunities while simultaneously incorporating professional development workshops, conferences and presentation opportunities. SURF students tackle real-world problems in the lab and present their findings to professors, graduate students, general public, and other program participants. This year over 140 students participated in the program university wide; four of these students were performing research under the direction of MSE professors.
