A Purdue MSE Alum will be receiving a prestigious Acta Materialia award a special symposium as part of the TMS 2015 Annual Meeting & Exhibition

Tresa M. Pollock, the 2015 Acta Materialia Inc. Hollomon Materials & Society Award recipient, is the Alcoa Professor of Materials at the University of California Santa Barbara. She will deliver the presentation, "Design of New Co-base Alloy Single Crystals: The Impact of an MGI Approach."  on Wednesday afternoon, March 18, at TMS2015 in Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida. Dr. Pollock will formally accept her award at the 2015 TMS-AIME Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, March 17.

Improved dendrite formation control helps lithium batteries last longer

Associate Professor Edwin Garcia is part of a group of researchers at Purdue University who are using numerical modeling to find ways to understand the complex science behind the formation of 'dendrites' that cause lithium-ion batteries to fail which will help to design better separators to create longer-lasting batteries.
