Prof. John Howarter received the Young Leaders Professional Development Award from The Mineral, Metal, and Materials Society (TMS) at the recent annual meeting in Orlando Florida. The award was through the Extraction and Processing Division and was created to enhance the professional development of dynamic young people from TMS’ five technical divisions by helping them participate in Society activities, become better acquainted, make important contacts with TMS leaders, and network with prominent Society members.

In addition to contributed technical presentations, Prof. Howarter has been involved in TMS through advising of the Purdue Material Advantage student chapter and he is currently serving as Vice-Chair of the Public & Government Affairs Committee and a member of the Recycling and Environmental Technologies Committee.
