Dr. Takashi Hibiki retires from Purdue after more than a decade of teaching, named Professor Emeritus

After 12 years with the School of Nuclear Engineering at Purdue University, Dr. Takashi Hibiki has retired and was subsequently named professor emeritus for exemplary service to the University.

Prior to joining the School in 2006, Hibiki served as an instructor at the Research Reactor Institute in Japan and as an Associate Professor at Kyoto University in Japan. He also served as Associate Head from 2013 to 2017.

Hibiki conducted cutting-edge research on high time-resolution neutron radiography, two-phase flow in mini-channels, two-phase flow at microgravity conditions and heat transfer modeling.

His research interests included two-phase flow dynamics and heat transfer in mini and microchannels, interfacial area transport equation development, thermal-hydraulic research at micro-gravity conditions, flow-induced vibration analysis, and research reactor utilization for industrial purposes.

During his career, Dr. Hibiki published over 220 journal papers and co-authored an internationally well-known two-phase flow textbook entitled “Thermo-Fluid Dynamics of Two-Phase Flow”. Additionally, he hold the second-highest Google Scholar ranking for journal-paper citations in the nuclear engineering category, and one of his papers is ranked No. 1 in citations for all papers published in the International Journal of Multiphase Flow since 1974.

We thank Dr. Hibiki for his contributions to the School over the years and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
