Why did you choose Aeronautics and Astronautics?
For as long as I can remember, I looked to the sky and wondered how rockets, space telescopes, satellites, and other spacecraft I saw on TV and in museums could reach space and still function. That curiosity ultimately led me to pursue AAE to begin understanding the engineering behind what it takes to launch not only spacecraft and aircraft, but also humanity to new horizons.
Best event or organization you’ve participated in within AAE?
Purdue Space Day! Getting to combine my passion for AAE with making a STEM impact on younger students has been one of my favorite experiences at Purdue.
Best event or organization you’ve participated in outside of AAE?
During my freshman year, I was part of Purdue Chaiyya, one of Purdue's Bollywood-fusion dance teams. It allowed me to rekindle my love for dance, connect with new friends, celebrate the diversity of dance styles and music in desi culture, and create amazing memories.
Why did you want to be an AAE Ambassador?
I want to help prospective students gain a better understanding of what Purdue AAE is really like and be the same kind of positive influence that I experience daily from my peers and mentors. Having been in their shoes, I hope to ease any doubts about choosing AAE at Purdue and serve as a bridge to future students.
Favorite place on campus?
The Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education (HSSE) Library in the Stewart Center! It's my go-to spot between classes, whether I'm studying, doing homework, or just taking a break. The quiet, calm atmosphere always reminds me of the libraries back in my hometown, which makes it feel like a piece of home on campus.
Favorite class you’ve taken thus far and why?
My favorite class so far has been AAE 251: Intro to Aerospace Design. As my first AAE class, it gave me an exciting introduction to many aspects of aeronautics and astronautics while also giving me the chance to collaborate with other AAE students on both short and long-term projects.
What is one piece of advice you would give to a potential AAE student?
Don't be afraid if things don't go exactly as planned! Very few people start college or AAE already having everything figured out. Keep an open mind, take care of yourself, make use of resources like office hours, and consider joining non-academic clubs to stay balanced.
Who is someone you look up to in the Aero/Astro industry and why?
I've looked up to Kalpana Chawla, the first woman of Indian descent to go to space, ever since I presented on her life and career for my 5th grade Wax Museum project. Her relentless pursuit of knowledge, determination to follow her passion despite challenges, and resilience in the face of adversity continue to inspire me today.
What motivates you to succeed?
I'm motivated by the opportunity to pursue an education in the subjects that interest me, which gives me the responsibility to determine how far I want to go. Knowing that the basic right to education isn’t guaranteed for everyone drives me to succeed not just for myself, but also to help expand these opportunities for others.
What is your ultimate career goal?
I hope to make a lasting impact in aerospace by contributing to the development of sustainable aircraft and spacecraft. I want to help make these industries more accessible while reducing their environmental footprint, leaving the world a little better than I found it and inspiring others to do the same.
What do you like to do when you are not studying/in the lab or classroom?
In my free time, I enjoy watching movies and TV shows, crocheting, and reading. I also love traveling to experience the culture of places through music, food, language, architecture, and more!
