GRAD 590: Preparing Future Faculty - Fall 2025 course

Just in time to welcome everyone back to a new academic year, I wanted to share an opportunity for those graduate students eager to ready themselves for the higher education job market, and explore pathways to success in academic faculty ranks: OGSPS is pleased to offer once again the 1-credit course GRAD 590: Preparing Future Faculty in Fall 2025.

  • The course is designed to introduce graduate students to faculty roles in contemporary American higher education. The course focuses on basic perspectives and skills useful for seeking and preparing for academic job interviews, refining competitive credentials, identifying options across the academic landscape—from postdoctoral positions, to teaching colleges, to research-intensive universities.  The course also will provide an overview of professional progress beyond the job search—including the tenure and promotion process.
  • The course will feature be capped at 20 graduate students, allowing for presentations tailored to student interests, small-group discussion, and feedback on course members’ credentials, including curriculum vitae and research statements.
  • GRAD 590: Preparing Future Faculty meets weekly on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:20, in Young Hall room 175. The Fall 2025 course will be offered by a team of faculty members who also are senior administrators of the Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars.
The course is aimed at advanced graduate students (post-prelims and beyond), although the OGSPS Office of Professional Development offers a wide range of workshops on this and related topics for all students throughout the year.  For questions, please contact OGSPS (494-2600; gradinfo@purdue.edu), or the instructors directly:

Thanks for sharing this!
