Call 911 for any injury that requires more than minor self-treatment.
- Example of minor self-treatment: a small splinter or superficial cut/scrape.
- Any injury is required to be reported within 24 hours of the injury.
Right to Know/ Hazardous Communication Training (EHS)
- Awareness training for all university employees

Comprehensive training is for those using any chemicals beyond general consumer products or using chemicals outside of the manufacturers intended purpose.

- Using Windex on windows or 409 to clean surfaces – Awareness
- Using oil for for machining or ethanol to clean components – Comprehensive

EHS
The Department of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) serves the University community in the areas of radiation safety, hazardous materials management, industrial and life safety, chemical and laboratory safety, and health hazard evaluation. Working as a resource to faculty, staff, and safety committees, EHS is responsible for monitoring compliance with various state, federal, and University regulations involving protection of individuals and property.

Daks Hoffman serves as the Environmental Health & Safety Manager for Purdue in Indianapolis since 2024. He’s the primary contact, based in STT Building room 368, and reachable at (765) 495‑7803 or hoffm231@purdue.edu.

Chemical Hygiene Plan used only by labs who are mixing chemicals for the purpose of researching their reactions/ changing their composition. Currently there are no ECE research groups who fall under chemical hygiene plan.

The School of Chemistry maintains a web site with training materials on the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment. Where appropriate, this site can be used for PPE training verification by having staff review the relevant information, print out the web generated form, and then signing and delivering the form to their DTI (Designated Training Individual.)

SDS Information
Safety Training/ HSI Platform
For research groups that require additional safety training for chemicals, laser, electrical, etc. These groups should be added to the HSI Platform by the Departments HSI Administrator Jordan Gilman, jgilman@purdue.edu.
ECE Safety Committee
Chaired by the ECE Facilities Manager is a group comprised of faculty, staff, and students that meet biannually to discuss safety within the department of ECE. Contact Jordan Gilman, jgilman@purdue.edu, for interest in joining the safety committee or general questions related to safety within the department.
