It’s one thing to learn concepts and principles through lectures and book reading. That academic foundation is essential, and it’s typically the mainstay of undergraduate education.

Matthew Gaydos, a PhD student in Purdue’s School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been named 2021 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellow.

Providing a “home away from home” to combat mid-day exhaustion for students – that’s the idea behind the winning project in Purdue ECE’s Ideas to Innovation Challenge. The competition is a fun and effective way for aspiring Purdue students to form interdisciplinary teams and propose ideas aimed at solving important societal problems, improving people’s lives, and making the world a better place.

Purdue University has launched the Center for Secure Microelectronics Ecosystem (CSME) with support from industry partners and a U.S. Department of Defense (DOD)-funded workforce development program.

An ECE student was part of the top team at the 27th annual Student Soybean Innovation Competition. Nate Nauman, a sophomore in computer engineering, and his teammates Cai Chen and Emmanuel Alagbe topped six other teams to claim the $20,000 prize. The competition, sponsored by the Indiana Soybean Alliance, encourages Purdue student teams to create new products or materials from soybeans.

David Inouye, assistant professor in electrical and computer engineering, has won the Rising Star award from Purdue’s Center for Resilient Infrastructures, Systems, and Processes (CRISP). CRISP has a program for recognizing outstanding technical contributions by faculty at two levels of seniority. The first award, called "Outstanding Star," is for senior Associate and Full Professors and the second, called "Rising Star," is for Assistant and junior Associate Professors.

Two Purdue researchers have been selected as Quantum Information Science and Engineering Network (QISE-NET) triplet awardees. The “triplets” – a group consisting of a university principal investigator, an industrial or national laboratory mentor, and a graduate student – come from a variety of disciplines relevant to advancing the development of quantum technologies such as materials science, chemistry, device engineering, physics, computer science and industrial research.

Purdue University’s College of Engineering is not only among the largest but also among the very best in the country – rising even higher in national rankings. In recent years its graduate and research program ranking has been rising from No. 9 to 8 to 7.

Alexandra Boltasseva, the Ron and Dotty Garvin Tonjes Professor of ECE, has been named a fellow of the Materials Research Society (MRS). The MRS Fellows program recognizes outstanding contributions to the field, including research, leadership, and service that have advanced the mission of the materials community world-wide.

Zubin Jacob, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Purdue University, has won the 2021 Leopold Felsen Award for Excellence in Electrodynamics, awarded by the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP).
