Purdue HKN wins seventh consecutive Outstanding Chapter Award

For the seventh consecutive year, Purdue University’s Beta Chapter of IEEE-HKN has been named an Outstanding Chapter—a prestigious honor awarded by the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu Board of Governors to only the most exceptional HKN chapters around the world.
This annual recognition celebrates chapters that go above and beyond in everything they do—chapter leadership, community outreach, academic and professional programming, and impact on their department, university, and local community. Purdue’s Beta Chapter continues to impress with a slate of activities that promote scholarship, creativity, public service, and professional growth.
Founded in 1905, Purdue’s HKN Beta Chapter is one of the oldest and most respected chapters in the country. You’ll find its influence throughout the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, from the student-run HKN Lounge in the Max W & Maileen Brown Family Hall (BHEE) to career-building events with industry leaders, hands-on lab spaces, weekly social gatherings, and service projects that benefit the greater community.
Behind the scenes, co-advisors Steven D. Pekarek, the Dr. Edmund O. Schweitzer, III Professor of ECE, and Niraj Menon, Instructional Lab Coordinator, help guide the chapter’s many initiatives.
Membership in HKN is an honor earned by academic excellence. It’s open to the top third of seniors, top fourth of juniors, top fifth of sophomores, and eligible graduate students in their second semester of study.
