A recent School of Nuclear Engineering graduate was selected to participate in the Nuclear Engineering Student Delegation (NESD) that took place in Washington D.C. July 8–13.

NE Assistant Professor, Yunlin Xu has been selected to receive the Paul C. Zmola Scholar of Nuclear Engineering Award. This award was established by Paul C. Zmola (BSME '44, MSME '47, and Ph.D. '50) in 2007 to advance nuclear engineering research at Purdue and recognize an outstanding newly-hired junior faculty member.

After 12 years with the School of Nuclear Engineering at Purdue University, Dr. Takashi Hibiki has retired and was subsequently named professor emeritus for exemplary service to the University.

Cybersecurity for nuclear power plants is the focus of a new collaboration between government and academia, led by Purdue University’s Hany Abdel-Khalik.

Two staff members from the School of Nuclear Engineering received a Bravo Award from Purdue University. Nuclear Electronics Technician, David Storz and Secretary, Teresa Luse both received the award for their excellence in workplace performance.

School of Nuclear Engineering Assistant Professor, Janelle Wharry will receive nearly $1.6 million for two projects thanks to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy University Programs (NEUP).

During the month of May, two NE faculty members lead groups of students on separate study abroad opportunities that not only provided an extensive list of educational benefits but also exposure to different sites and cultures.

Janelle Wharry, assistant professor of nuclear engineering, has been selected to receive a Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from Oak Ridge Associated Universities. This prestigious award provides seed money for research by junior faculty at ORAU member institutions with the intention to enrich the quality of research and professional growth of young faculty.

NE Assistant Professor, Allen Garner, in collaboration with Eagle Harbor Technologies Inc., has received funding from NASA to pursue research in developing a precision eddy-current sensor for nondestructive evaluation of spacecraft structures.
