Using machine learning to perfect nanoscale 3D printing

Additive manufacturing has changed the landscape of many fields, including nanotechnology. To 3D-print nanoscale objects, researchers often use a laser-based process called multi-photon polymerization. But it's a relatively slow process, and difficult to ensure accuracy. Purdue University researchers have developed an active machine learning framework that leads to more accurate prints more quickly, with the use of much less training data than typically used in a machine learning process.

251 years of experience: saying goodbye to seven Purdue ME faculty legends

It’s not often you can work beside people who literally wrote the book in their chosen field. In 2024, we bid a fond farewell to seven of the most impactful faculty members from the School of Mechanical Engineering, who have all chosen to retire. Stuart Bolton, James Braun, Patricia Davies, Klod Kokini, Peter Meckl, Gordon Pennock, and Steven Wereley leave behind an incredible legacy — and a combined 251 years of experience at Purdue.
